Review of No Regrets by Nicky James

4.5 stars

Nicky James makes no apologies about the heart-breaking love story of No Regrets, but even though we laughed and cried and cried it is one of our favourites of 2017.

7 months ago Landon Johnston was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.  Although struggling with how to continue, his grandmother convinces him to try and live his life while he still can. On a bucket list trip to China he meets Abel Matheson.  Thinking he can mark another item off his list, a one-night-stand, he finds himself draw to Able and his free-spirited, adventurous spirit.   After his diagnosis Landon cut himself off from living and even loving, thinking that it’ll be easier for everyone as all he had to offer is heartbreak.  But Abel doesn’t give up that easily, but will the secret Landon is keeping push them away?

Honestly, No Regrets is a hard book to review.   Nicky James starts the book with a note to the reader, that this book is about living life, and it really sets the tone for the novel.  We stopped reading a few times because if felt like we had already read the last page, cause really we all know how a book about a about a terminal cancer patient is going to end.

But the love story between Landon and Abel is addictive, and although terminal cancer is a huge part of the book, it really is about the love of Able and Landon.  Abel reminds Landon that sometimes the journey is the point, and especially when the destination is so clear ahead.  Yes, we cried, and cried, because how could you not, and it made us squeeze our loved ones a little closer. The MC are so engaging, Nicky bring their thoughts and actions to life.  And like them you just want to grab on and enjoy life, with No Regrets.

This is a sweet story, with heartbreak built in around every corner.  But it is so much more than that, and we are so glad that we took the time to enjoy , and fall in love with No Regrets.
